When Chelsea sacked Di Matteo in 2012, the two parties failed to agree on compensation and Matteo continued to receive his 130 grand a week salary unless he found another job. It took him a couple of years to find one in Germany.
In any case I don't think Koeman will stay long in the PL. He will end up back in Holland or go to Spain probably. He's still a big name even though he's failed miserably at Everton with the money he's had to spend.

I don't think they can do that unless the contract specifically gives them that right. And why would Koeman sign up to that?
I know Reading put Pardew on "gardening leave" when he wanted to join us, but he was the one breaking the contract.
